Miracles Aboagye has Been Granted 50 Million Cedis Bail By EOCO.

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s communications team, Dennis Edward Aboagye, has been released on bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office after being taken into custody in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation. The bail, which was granted after extensive discussions between Aboagye’s legal representatives and EOCO officials on Sunday, July 13, 2026, is in the amount of GH¢50 million, with the requirement of three justified sureties.

As the former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, Mr Aboagye was detained as part of a broader investigation into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities within the committee. According to the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Aboagye, along with the former accountant of IMCCoD, Gerald Appiah, and several other unnamed individuals, is being investigated for the alleged misappropriation, misapplication, diversion, and theft of public funds, which are estimated to be around GH¢55 million.

The anti-graft agency initiated the investigation in response to a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, which requested a more in-depth examination of the findings of a forensic audit that covered the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025. The alleged offences being investigated include conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for personal gain, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, and other related offences.

The arrest of Mr Aboagye drew a large crowd of supporters and sympathisers of the New Patriotic Party to the EOCO headquarters, prompting the deployment of military personnel, police officers, and national security operatives to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. The New Patriotic Party has denounced the arrest, characterising it as a politically motivated move aimed at intimidating opposition members.

However, the Economic and Organised Crime Office has maintained that the arrest is a legitimate part of its ongoing investigations and has assured the public that due process will be followed throughout the case, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served. The situation has sparked a heated debate, with the NPP and EOCO presenting differing perspectives on the matter, and the outcome of the investigation is being closely monitored by the public and various stakeholders.
