The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody Israel Kwadwo Safo, who is widely known by his nickname Akofena, in relation to a shooting incident that occurred on June 21, 2026.This incident involved Sarah Adwoa Safo, who was a former member of parliament for Dome Kwabenya.
Israel Kwadwo Safo, also referred to as Kofena, is the CEO of Kantanka Automobile and surrendered himself to the police, along with two other individuals, following the shooting that took place at his residence in Kwabenya. This happened during his installation ceremony as the leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The event was a result of a serious and ongoing dispute over leadership and succession within their family after the death of their father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, in September 2025. Sarah Adwoa Safo arrived at the scene amid heightened tensions and was shot, though she is currently in a stable condition.
A search was carried out on his car and at his home in Kwabenya, and as a result, 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of 45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of 40 calibre ammunition, several loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols were found; one of the pistols was registered.

As part of the investigation, the police have decided to suspend the operating license of Kantanka Security Services.
This decision came after the arrest of six security guards associated with the company. The three suspects, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, are now set to appear in court on June 23 as the investigation continues.
