Sarah Adwoa Safo’s team seemingly outmaneuvered both law enforcement and rival family members to ensure her father, the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, was laid to rest as planned. This was despite a court injunction and confusion surrounding the vehicle that actually transported his body.
The former Dome-Kwabenya MP has been embroiled in a bitter dispute with her brother, Nana Kwadw Safo Akofeona I, over control of their father’s funeral arrangements. On July 29, 2026, the Accra High Court granted a 10-day interim injunction, restraining Adwoa Safo from proceeding with the burial while a substantive case regarding the arrangements remained before the court.
However, the injunction did not deter thousands of mourners from gathering at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region on July 30 for the funeral. Videos and reports circulated on social media, claiming that police had intercepted a hearse carrying the Apostle’s body as it was leaving Transitions Funeral Home.
Adwoa Safo’s spokesperson, Seth Kofi Kissi, denied these claims in an interview on Neat FM the day after the burial. According to Kissi, the body was never kept at Transitions, and Adwoa Safo had personally tasked him with collecting it from its actual location before transporting it to the funeral grounds.

Kissi stated that Adwoa Safo had arranged for a brand-new, previously unused vehicle to transport her father’s remains. The casket was cleverly disguised to resemble building materials, allowing it to be transported without arousing suspicion. In a separate interview with Okay FM, Kissi revealed that the disguise was so convincing that those who unloaded the casket from the vehicle were unaware that they were carrying a body.
The secrecy surrounding the transportation of the body was so thorough that Kissi himself was not aware that he was collecting the late Apostle’s body until he arrived at the location where it was being kept. The confusion over the casket is the latest development in a bitter family dispute over Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s funeral.
The dispute began when Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, head of the Kantanka family and the Kristo Asafo Mission, accused Adwoa Safo of denying him access to their father’s remains and ignoring parts of the will. Adwoa Safo maintained that the burial arrangements were properly concluded after consultations with the Asantehene and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Despite the court granting Akofena’s side a 10-day interim injunction to halt the funeral, Adwoa Safo proceeded with the burial, and the ceremony took place at Gomoa Mpota on July 30. The dispute remains unresolved, with the family’s internal conflict continuing to unfold.
