Manchester City midfielder Rodri will miss the remain of the season subsequent to bursting his anterior cruciate ligament.
The 28-year-old limped out of Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Prime League on Sunday following a crash with Thomas Partey.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says Rodri has now had a medical procedure on his knee and will miss the remain season.
“He had a medical procedure today – anterior cruciate ligament and some meniscus,” Guardiola said on Friday.
“In this way, next season he will be here. This season is over [for him].”
Guardiola said Rodri was “indispensable” during last season’s title run-in, in which City pipped Arsenal to bring home their fourth consecutive league title.
Rodri missed five games last season and City lost four of them.
“Sadly we got the most awful (news) yet these things occur,” added Guardiola. “We will be there to help him in his recuperation bit by bit.
“What he gives us, we don’t have a comparative player.
“Be that as it may, the others can all together supplant what Rodri has given since his appearance to us. We should do it collectively and figure out how to play a great deal of matches without a significant player for us.”
In the mean time, City are set to be without Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne for their Primer League trip to Newcastle United on Saturday (12:30 BST).
De Bruyne missed the draw with Arsenal and may not get back to activity until after the international break in October.
Rodri’s significance
Since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2019, City have lost recently 11% of the matches in which Rodri has highlighted, contrasted and 24% without the Spaniard.
Rodri was making his initial beginning of the Primer League season against Arsenal, having supported a hamstring injury during Spain’s 2-1 win against England in the Euro 2024 last in July that kept him out for quite a long time.
